Home

small cabinThe life of a cabin dweller is a lot different from what you experience right now. Typically, when you live in traditional homes, you have large areas, small apartments in big buildings, bigger bills, and more. The cabin lifestyle, is all about living a simpler life. Living in sometimes the equivalent of a “one room cabin”. However, for the most part, once you make the switch, you will see that even though you lose size, you still gain more than you ever imagined you could. With a cabin, you open the doorway for a total transformation.

How Cabin Life Changes Living

simple cabinLook around your home. How much stuff do you have cluttering up your life? How far do you have to go to find green grass and large trees? How much stress do you deal with on a daily basis? When was the last time you enjoyed time in nature? These are all little ways that a cabin can change your life. For instance cabin life will enable you to:

  • Rethink and Start Fresh
  • See the Beauty in Nature
  • Lose the Clutter
  • Embrace New Hobbies
  • Let Go of Stress

nice cabinI mean, think about it: When you move into a cabin, it is often a smaller space. You can get rid of the clutter in your life which will allow you to start fresh. The clutter could also be contributing to your overall stress. Someone has to clean it. From there, since it is a smaller space, you will be encouraged more to go outside where you can embrace nature’s beauty.

You may also decide to take up new projects and crafts. In colder areas, you may begin to pick up needle-working to give you something to do on a cold winter’s night. Woodworking is also quite popular for cabin owners. Spinning wool if you have sheep in the field outside is also possible. It simply depends on what you want the future to look like for yourself.

Give It a Try for Yourself!

There is something very peaceful about staying in a cabin. If you don’t believe us, you may want to give it a try for yourself. We aren’t saying sell your house and move to the woods and a single room cabin. There are ways you can rent one for a weekend or a week when you go on vacation away from the bright lights of the city.

This little sample of life outside of the city may be the greatest thing you have ever experienced. It may be where you choose to retire to. It may even allow you to reconnect with your partner, your kids, your inner self.

You would be surprised by how much enjoyment you can find by stepping outside of the “norm.”

Powering The Off-Grid Lifestyle

Many of those with an interest in exploring the great outdoors are also conscious of pollution, a by-product of power. As we evolve, we continue to develop cleaner alternatives to powering our rustic lifestyle, while providing the creature comforts. The most common cleaner energy solutions are Natural Gas, Wind, Water & Solar.

Natural Gas To Power Remote Cabins

Although natural gas comes from mining petroleum products, natural gas is much cleaner burning compared to oil or wood. Because of the sourcing methods, nat gas gets a bad reputation, but again, the only by-product is water not greenhouse gases. This is a more sustainable product that is cleaner for the environment.

Hardness The Power Of The Wind

Wind power is becoming more and more controversial due to the side effects of the large power turbines. The energy creation itself is as clean as it comes, but as oversizes blades spin, there are adverse reactions to wildlife. Not to mention, the sight of a giant wind turbine is not the most appealing in a rural setting.

Water The Source Of Life

Quite literally, water is the source of life. Every human needs water to survives, but there are even more benefits that water power can provide. For remote locations with small streams, turbines can turn with the natural flow of water. With no by product like exhaust or pollution, water is very attractive. However, like with wind power, turbines in water presents a potential issue with wildlife and the natural flow of water.

Solar Power Solutions For Remote Locations

Solar is the most common and often most practical for most off-grid power solution. The sun is abundantly available to most locations assuming there is enough clearance in tree coverage. Solar takes a large investment up-front but pays dividends in the way of clean power for years and years to come. For right now, many federal and local authorities are subsidizing installation of solar panels which is the most expensive stage in implementation.

Rustic Meets The Digital Age

Off-grid just isn’t off-grid anymore. We can fight it all we want, but the reality is, a cross between off-grid and glamping is where a vast majority of the public interest lies. Sure, we all love to pitch a tent, but along with that comes to portable power banks, phones, cameras, and even laptops. This is the twenty-first century and its here to stay. Let’s embrace it.

Upgrades For The Off-Grid

First and foremost is power.

Whether it’s a power bank, gas generator or hardwired electric, camping without power is not an option. Gone are the days of camping without cellphone, tablets and portable fans. Rather than shaming the change, we should embrace the change. At the end of the day, getting people outdoors is the goal. If that means at the end of a long day of hiking, biking, exploring etc, ends with some screen-time, so be-it. At least people are still getting outside. A power source is certainly the first step in encouraging more to venture outside their comfort zone.

Digital Creature Comforts

For those that aren’t ready for tent camping, glamping is a happy medium. Glaming (a newly coined term) is a combination of glamorous camping. The most common approach to clamping comes in the form of a Yurt style structure, fully outfitted with wood-burning stove, comfy bed and of course POWER! So what’s the appeal? The appeal is these glamping structures are typical in very remote locations. Again, allowing everyone to get outdoors and enjoy the elements, but providing a luxurious home-base

Details Are In The Decorations

In the world of glamping, what sets apart the winners from losers is in the details. How instagrammable are the accommodations? If its not photo-worthy, it’s not as likely to draw a crowd there for the sole purpose of the ‘gram.’ This is especially true for special events like weddings. Weddings are extremely expensive and a one-time event that needs to be lived on via video and photo. By incorporating something trendy and new like an acrylic sign for wedding for example, sets you apart from the rest of the competition. As they say, “happy bride, happy day.” In addition to customized signs, banners, lighting, and table decorations can all be tweaked to please your audience. We pride ourselves on the ability to adapt to every customer need to make them feel right at home in the wilderness.

Get Out There And Enjoy

At the end of the day, the goal of Silver Creek is to ensure everyone is enjoying their time in the outdoors. If we can get more people off the screens and into the woods, it’s a win. We can help facilitate a positive adventure into the woods by bringing some of the creature comforts to the remote woods, we are all for it. For special request, special decorations or events, please reach out and let us know your thoughts and we will try our very best to facilitate and and all request.

Get out there and enjoy the great outdoors, in a Digital age!

Glencoe, Illinois

Art Festival Walking StreetThe American Craft Exposition (ACE) takes place here. It is a craft show that artisans from all over attend. This means you can see woodworking artists, jewelry designers, weavers, and all types of other rustic art on display and available for you to take home.

Seattle, Washington

The Magnuson Park Art Show is also something to enjoy seeing. Even though you may hear Seattle and be unable to imagine a rustic show taking place here, it is still worth viewing. Beyond the Art

small town festivalsIf you look beyond the art, it is really hard telling what you may find at a rustic festival. There are typically art displays, but there may also be a lot more than you at first realize. For instance, the “Vermont Renaissance Faire”. This faire has history, it has silliness, dueling, and more, but it also has handcrafted goods that are outstanding to see. Live music and performances also take place to keep you and your family happy for the entire day. There are also children festivals and beer festivals.

If you also like a little crazy for your festival events, small towns have you covered. There is a festival that is named Madam Lou Bunch Day in Central City, where people dress as madams and minors to pay tribute to a time during the 1800s. It is celebrated because this madam opened her house of ill repute to be used as a hospital during the major TB outbreak. The festival itself is a whole lot of fun, and there is something for all age groups to enjoy.

Small towns, no matter where you are, have a way of standing out. Art festivals and festivals with artwork are both great options for all who want something remarkable to do.
